The 43rd class of firefighter/medic recruits commenced on Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Departments Fire/EMS Training Academy in Cheltenham. The Fire/EMS Department's command staff, rank Majors and above as well as civilian managers, greeted the 35 recruits at a 9:00 am meeting. Acting Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor facilitated introductions of his command staff and had each recruit introduce themselves.
The recruits are beginning a 16 week educational and physically challenging academy where they will receive instruction in basic fire fighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials and a knowledge of general orders and standard operating procedures of the Department.
