Multi-Vehicle Crash on Beltway at Branch Avenue with Updates

At about 3:45 pm, Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Fire/EMS units were alerted to a multi-vehicle crash on the Capital Beltway inner-loop at Branch Avenue in Temple Hills. Citizens reported to 911 call takers that at least 3 vehicles are involved; a tractor trailer, a box truck and a pick-up truck. One person is trapped in their vehicle. A heavy duty rescue squad will need to use their heavy-duty hydraulic tools (Jaws of Life) to extricate the patient. There is a large contingent of Fire/EMS Apparatus on the scene taking up lanes of both the inner and outer loop.  Expect traffic delays.


The Maryland State Police – Forestville Barracks will be handling the investigation and additional release of information.


4:00 pm update - 1 patient being treated by paramedics is a Priority 1 Trauma, life threatening injuries, unknown age/unknown gender, transported by paramedics to a Trauma Center.

Firefighters still working to extricate another patient.

4:10 pm update - Second patient has been extricated and in the care of paramedics, unk age/unk gender, serious injuires going to Trauma Center via paramedics.

30-50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the Beltway from a broken saddle tank on the tractor trailer - PGFD Haz-Mat companies en route to assisit in clean-up of spill.
