You can certainly dish it out but can you personally handle the heat??? Members of the media are invited to participate in a controlled event that will demonstrate a firefighter’s day at work. Local and National media personalities from radio, print, TV, Internet and bloggers including producers, editors, writers, assignment desk, videographers, photographers, reporters and anchors are invited to participate in this opportunity. Media participants will have a unique opportunity to work side by side with County elected and civic leaders to douse the flames.
The Prince George’s County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics Association in conjunction with the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department and the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute (MFRI), are conducting a one-day fire ground operations orientation for civilians including elected public officials, department heads, community leaders and representatives of the media. This event will be held Friday April 29, 2011, from 8:00am – 2:00pm at the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute in College Park.
This program will include actually suiting up in firefighter protective clothing, donning self contained breathing apparatus and actually going inside a real fire to experience firsthand the environment in which firefighters work. Obviously, this will be a controlled situation, but will nevertheless provide an opportunity to see and feel what firefighters deal with on a daily basis. It promises to be a very exciting and informative day.
