The Prince George's County, Maryland, Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department pulled off a nearly impossible task this morning that would not have been possible without the assistance of numerous members of the Department..  A Good Morning America producer contacted the Department's Public Relations Office on Sunday evening at about 5:00 pm and requested our assistance in a product demonstration.  Being a "media friendly" Fire/EMS Department we jumped at the opportunity to assist in whatever way possible.

By 5:00 am, Monday, June 13, 2011, Firefighter/Medics and Bomb Squad Technicians assigned to the Special Operations Command were on location at the St. Josephs Fire/EMS Station in Largo designing and setting up the props to be used in the product demonstration on live TV.

Acting Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor and Lt. Col. Scott K. Hoglander, Commander of Special Operations, were on hand working with personnel to accomplish the task and to ensure it was done safely.

Good Morning America televised the segment live at 7:40 am.  The demonstration went well with the exception of a planned t-shirt ignition that did not occur, however, aptly explained by GMA's Consumer Product Correspondent Elisabeth Leamy.

The GMA experience was tough task that overall provided a positive impression of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department on a national stage all accomplished within a very short time frame.  Was it a challenge?? Yes, but we would do it again whenever and wherever.
