OPENING DATE: 10/07/11 CLOSING DATE: 10/21/11 THE POSITION The Fire/EMS Department is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the Fire Apparatus Services Manager, grade G-31, position in the Fire/EMS Apparatus Maintenance Division. The Fire Apparatus Services Manager is a responsible management, technical and supervisory position in charge of the design, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of fire apparatus, automotive, and heavy equipment. Incumbent schedules, coordinates and directs all operations concerning the design, repair, maintenance and inspection of automotive and related equipment. EXAMPLES OF WORK Manages the overall operation of the Apparatus Maintenance Division; plans, assigns and supervises the work of subordinate staff in order to meet the goals and objectives of the Bureau; schedules and coordinates the service and maintenance on automotive and related equipment with the operation agency in order for the equipment to fulfill its projected services; receives and resolves complaints from station personnel and vendors; conducts vendor inspections; manages the overall operations of the Department's SCBA program; leads and coordinates special assignments and reports; performs non-routine special project on a routine basis; prepares documentation of SCBA operation conditions regarding a firefighter's serious injury or death; analyzes apparatus maintenance problems and instructions, and implement modifications and improvements to maintain the fleet in operation readiness; develops detailed specifications for Fire/EMS rescue apparatus purchases, major repairs and maintenance; establishes effective rapport with co-workers, and expresses ideas effectively; participates in pre-bid conferences with Procurement and prospective bidders to protect the best inters of the Department and County; writes technical bid proposals for outsourcing mechanical work in a manner that best serves the County; has working knowledge of all EEOC laws to ensure compliance and enforces EEOC guidelines and regulations, and County policies and procedures with respect to equal employment, discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree with major course work in business/public administration, engineering or related field, plus at least five (5) years administrative and supervisory experience in fleet maintenance operations, including responsibility for maintenance of heavy duty vehicles and equipment such as those used in fire and rescue work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
