Prince George's County Firefighters and Paramedics worked for nearly 30 minutes to free a female trapped in her SUV after being involved in a collision with a CSX freight train.  The incident occurred at about 10:00 am at the crossing in the 4500 block of Decatur Street in the Town of Edmonston and City of Hyattsville.  The collision occurred on the City of Hyattsville side of the tracks.

The northbound CSX frieght train and SUV each came to a stop about 30 feet north of the crossing.  There was no damage to the train and the SUV was found on it's side with the female, 30ish years of age, trapped inside.

Firefighters carried their heavy-duty hydraulic extrication tools through a fence and dealt with an uneven and challenging terrain to reach the vehicle.  Despite those challenges the victim was removed and in the hands of paramedics in about 30 minutes of arrival.

The injured female sustained "Serious" but what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.  She was transported to a nearby Trauma Center.

The City of Hyattsville Police Department will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.  Firefighters were clearing the scene at about 11:00 am.
