Prince George’s County Fire Investigators continue to investigate a fire in a Cheverly apartment that involves a fatality.  Firefighters responded to a 911 report of a smoke alarm sounding with smoke coming from a 1st floor apartment at 6321 Landover Road just before 4:00 pm today.

Firefighters located and extinguished a relatively small fire in the apartment and found an unconscious female.  She was transported by paramedics to a nearby Trauma Center where she was pronounced deceased a short time after her arrival.

The fire has caused displacement to 3 other apartments.  The County Citizen Services Unit and the American Red Cross are assisting seven adults and four children with temporary shelter.  Fire loss is estimated at about $5,000 to $10,000.

The cause of the fire remains open and under investigation.  The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit will be assisting in the investigation until a cause of the fire has been determined.  Identity of the deceased is pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
