Images of the Prince George's County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Fire/EMS Departments Operations Center (DOC) were convened for "Sandy" on Sunday, October 28, 2012. The Operations Centers are scheduled to stand down on Tuesday, October 31, 2012, at 7:00 pm. The EOC had respresenatives from all County agencies.
The Fire/EMS department responded to just 200 calls above the average of 400 responses handled daily. About the same as a severe County-wide thunderstorm. All Federal and County offices and school systems were closed for Monday and Tuesday which help to reduce the overall responses. The Fire/EMS Department responded to numerous trees falling on to homes causing significant damage and displacement of occupants. There were no storm related injuries or deaths in Prince George's County.
The Fire/EMS Department would like to acknowledge the cooperation of our citizens, visitors and businesses by adhering to our safety advice and recommendations. In addition to using good fire safety and injury prevention habits most everyone stayed at home and off the roads. Your cooperation and participation was part of the solution and not part of the problem. Thank you!!!
The Fire/EMS Department feels fortunate that the call load was not as heavy as anticipated based on the forecast. Needless to say; all of us weathered the storm successfully. Our thoughts and prayers are with those suffering more catastrophic effects in the Northeast.
