The Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) Department will once again gladly accept hundreds of smoke
alarms from PEPCO and their Emergency Services Partnership Program (ESPP). The donation of these 10-year, tamper proof,
with hush feature smoke alarms could not come at a better time. The annual Change Your Clock – Change Your
Battery Campaign occurs this weekend (November 2).
Firefighters throughout the County will be visiting
home ensuring there are working smoke alarms in every home. Often during these community outreach events, a home is found
with a smoke alarm that is 10 year old or is non-working or simply does not have an alarm at all. We replace these worn out or missing alarms with a new
10-year smoke alarm, installed by firefighters, free of charge. The new 10-year alarm equates to never having
to change a battery again although you still need to test the alarm on the first day of
every month.
Energizer Battery provided the Fire/EMS
Department with 5000 new batteries to be
distributed to rejuvenate your smoke and CO alarms and ensure they are working
during the cold winter months. It is no
secret there are more fires during the winter and it is vital you have working
smoke alarms.
We invite the members of the media and general
public join us during a press conference as we accept the smoke alarms and batteries.
