Crash with Injury on Laurel-BowieRoad in Bowie

A multi vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment occurred at about 4:00 pm, Tuesday, April 27, 2010. The crash occurred on Laurel-Bowie Road (Route 197) near Grason Lane in Bowie, MD. Four passenger vehicles were involved in what started out as a head-on collision when, according to witnesses, a vehicle swerved to avoid hitting a school bus. No students were on the bus. The vehicle entered into the opposing lane of traffic resulting in a four vehicle collision. An adult female and an adult male were trapped in their separate vehicles before firefighters quickly extricated them. Those 2 patients were transported by paramedics to a trauma center with what appear to be serious, non-life threatening injuries. Five other patients; adult female, her pre-teen son, 2 teen-aged males and 1 teen-aged female sustained minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals. 3 adults were evaluated at the scene and refused transport. City of Bowie Police are investigating.


Laurel-Bowie Road (Route 197) was closed in both directions between Annapolis Road (Route 450) and Grason Lane.
