High Wind Warning Issued by NWS

Stay Prepared-Stay Informed-Stay Safe.  

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High-Wind Warning for Prince George's County starting at 5:00 am on Saturday.  Citizens should secure loose items on your property that could become projectiles during periods of high winds.  It is not uncommon for power outages to occur during these weather events; citizens should have their emergency kits at the ready.  Among other items, your kit should include a flashlight/lantern with fresh batteries and a battery operated radio to stay informed of emergency information.  Ensure your cell phones have a full charge.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON HAS 
ISSUED A HIGH WIND WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 9 PM 
EST SATURDAY. THE HIGH WIND WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. 
 
* TIMING...5 AM TO 9 PM...WITH THE STRONGEST WINDS BETWEEN 10 AM 
AND 5 PM. 
 
* WINDS...NORTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH. 
 
* IMPACTS...BE PREPARED FOR POWER OUTAGES...AND DOWNED TREES AND 
LARGE BRANCHES. ENSURE LOOSE OBJECTS ON YOUR PROPERTY ARE 
SECURED OR BROUGHT INSIDE.
Instructions:A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.
