Two Boaters Rescued From Potomac River

On Saturday, October 15, 2011, two men were rescued from the Potomac River after their small boat capsized.

At around 4:30 pm the Fire/EMS Department responded to a report of a boater in distress near National Colonial Farm and Bryan Point Road in Accokeek. Upon arrival Firefighter/Medics witnessed a small boat capsized in the river and quickly learned that an adult male, 50ish, had been removed from the water and rescued by the United States Park Police Helicopter and a second adult male, 50ish, had been rescued by another boater.

Both males were suffering from mild hypothermia and brought by their respective rescuers to shore where they were met by Firefighter/Medics. They were evaluated with treatment quickly initiated on the scene. The patients were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in good condition.
