Firefighters Conduct Drills on Electric Vehicles

Personnel from the Second Battalion (Bowie-Lanham area) and the Northview Fire/EMS Station 816 have arranged for training for firefighters on Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf vehicles.  The Volt and Leaf are both "electric" vehicles that present different challenges in handling incidents that involve electric vehicles.

The training is provided by representatives from Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg.  Training dates and times are based on the dealership availability.   Please contact station 816 if you are interested in attending one of the remaining training drills.

All training is held at the Northview Fire/EMS Station 816.  The remaining dates are; April 9, 16 and 21 and are held from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

It is anticipated that a written guideline on dealing with electric vehicles will follow so that all firefighters and medics will benefit from this training.

Thanks to Fire Fighter/Medic Tom Robinson, Bowie Fire/EMS Station 819, for the pictures.
