Southern County Community Outreach

Career and Volunteer Firefighters, EMT’s and Paramedics from the Departments 7th Battalion joined together to walk with the Williamsburg Estates Civic leaders and County Police in the first "community walk" of this year. The 7th Battalion covers the southern tier of the County and includes Upper Marlboro, Croom, Brandywine, Baden, Clinton and surrounding communities.  Fire/EMS apparatus and personnel from Brandywine, Croom and Clinton Fire/EMS Stations as well as Battalion Chief Denise Dickens and Assistant Chief Darren Ware participated with a showing of over 25 personnel and 7 pieces of Fire/EMS apparatus.
Everyone walked 1 mile with the citizens while answering Fire/EMS related questions, personnel checked smoke alarms along the route and distributed pocket cards on "recognizing the signs of a stroke". The crews made contact with well over 400 occupants.

Battalion Chief Dickens stated, “As the battalion commander of the area, I was very proud of the participation and the demeanor that the personnel displayed for this event. This was a shining example of what professionalism truly stands for and the community interaction was refreshing.”

Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor later stated, “Excellent - The 7th Battalion has embodied what our community outreach efforts are intended to do.”

Information about this community walk was distributed during a “coffee club”
meeting held in each police district on a regular scheduled basis. Battalion
Chiefs and above have been encouraged to attend these community gatherings and
interact with fellow members of public safety and the community. Details on the
dates, times and locations of these meeting can be obtained by contacting the
Public Relations, Community Outreach and Legislative Affairs office,
