Media Coverage of New and Expanded Smoke Alarm Initiatives

MEDIA CONTACT: Mark E. Brady, Chief Spokesperson, 240-508-7930, mebrady@co.pg.md.us

A press conference was held on March 1, 2013, at the Northview Community Fire/EMS Station 816 in Bowie.  Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor spoke of a 8 month spike of residential home fires in Bowie community that indicates additional fire prevention efforts need to be taken.   He also spoke of his concern of 9 fire related fatalities to date while recording 10 in all of 2012 and he spoke of the frustration that there are some homes in Prince George's County that do not have working smoke alarms.  Several new initiatives and an expansion of existing community outreach and public education programs.

Thanks to the media outlets that were there to cover our press conference.  All of our TV outlets were there as well as most of our radio and print journalists.  I look forward to posting everyones coverage once I have a link.
