The combined civilian, career and volunteer men and women of the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department will be battling some heat and the police this weekend!!!  The Second Annual “Battle of the Badges” BBQ Cook-Off will take place pitting the Fire/EMS Department against the County Police Department.  While it is true the Fire/EMS Department placed second last year we are bringing high heat and a new recipe for BBQ Ribs!!!

This “friendly” competition will be held as part of the Community Expo being held by the Boulevard at Capital Centre in Largo.  The Expo includes an extensive list of events that start at 10:00 am and run up until 5:00 pm.  Some of the activities include; Zumba, live music, food sampling and face painting.  Check their website for a list of activities and times at www.shopcapcentre.com.

The PGFD vs. PGPD Cook-Off will open at 2:00 pm.  A panel of judges including Top Chef Timothy Dean will determine this year’s winner shortly after 2:00 pm.  The winner will be determined by appearance, texture and taste.  Both the Fire/EMS Department and Police Department will continue to sell their BBQ Ribs for a $5.00 donation until supplies are exhausted.

Each agency has a program that will reap the benefits of any proceeds.  The Fire/EMS Department will purchase 10-year tamper proof with hush feature smoke alarms that will be provided free of charge to residents that cannot afford to purchase one.

Please join us on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 2:00 pm to cheer on your Fire/EMS Department Grill Team.  Remember the judges will convene at around 2:00 pm to judge the best.
