On Monday, June 9, Firefighters from Prince George's and Montgomery Counties responded to a house fire in the Chillum area.  Firefighters arrived to a 2-story, single family, home in the 6900 block of 18th Avenue just after 4:00 pm to find fire showing from the top floor.  The fire was quickly extinguished and all searches were negative.

Fire Investigators are still looking into the possible cause of the fire that appears to have started in a second floor bedroom.  Fire loss is estimated at $25,000.  The three occupants of the home were displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross.

A firefighter sustained burns to his upper body and transported to the Burn Unit at Medstar Washington Hospital Center where he was treated and released.

Engine 834 from Chillum-Adelphi arrived first to find fire showing from the second floor of the house.
