On Wednesday morning, after everyone has had a chance to review election results, Prince George's County Firefighter/Medics will be going door-to-door throughout County.  Armed with a fresh supply of 1000 10-year smoke alarms, donated by PEPCO, and 5000 batteries, donated by Energizer, firefighters are checking to ensure every home is protected by a working smoke alarm.  Firefighters will also check if the family has a home escape plan.

Having a working smoke alarm increases the chances of surviving a home fire by 50%

Three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms

No smoke alarms were present in more than one-third (37%) of home fire deaths.

If any member of the media would like to team up with a crew of firefighters for Wednesday canvass you can contact Mark E. Brady, 240-508-7930, on Wednesday morning.  We will accommodate a reporter and photographer with a firefighter crew.  Firefighters typically venture out to communities around 10:00 am.
