Prince George’s County Firefighters and Paramedics had the opportunity to practice their skills today at a scheduled Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) exercise. The MCI drill was designed to test the response and performance of personnel from the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department from the Largo area. The exercise scenario involved a collapse of bleachers loaded with concert goers at a local entertainment complex. Dozens of patients with simulated injuries were triaged, treated and transported by firefighters and paramedics. All the action was closely monitored and scrutinized by Fire and EMS supervisors that held a critique immediately following the conclusion of the drill.

The Fire/EMS Department exercise coordinators assessed the drill as a success in that weaknesses and strengths were identified and discussed. The post-drill critique provided areas that need improvement and also highlighted actions that were performed well. Overall, the drill demonstrated excellent interaction with other entities involved in the MCI exercise and the Fire/EMS Department within an Incident Command System and interoperability.
