Firefighters from the Laurel area battled a house fire just before midnight on Thursday, August 12, 2010. Firefighter/Medics arrived at a 1-story single family home in the 7400 block of Brooklyn Bridge Road and found heavy fire coming from the roof. An interior attack on the attic fire and a search of the house for occupants was initiated. The searches were negative and firefighters had the bulk of the fire contained and extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival. There were 50 firefighters and medics on the scene including units from Montgomery and Howard Counties.
An adult female occupant sustained minor burn injuries and was transported to a medical facility where she was treated and released. The fire displaced the family which made their own arrangements for shelter with other family members. Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and attributed the cause to an electrical malfunction. Fire loss is estimated at $275,000.
