Firefighters from Bowie and surrounding communities battled a raging house fire this evening. At about 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 09, 2011, fire/EMS units, some just arriving back in the Bowie area after battling a 2-alarm Upper Marlboro townhouse fire, were dispatched to the 12300 block of Stafford Lane. Occupants had called 911 and reported a fire upstairs. Firefighters arrived at the 2-story “country-club” style house with heavy fire on the top floor with extension into and through the roof.
Firefighters initiated an attack on the fire and had the bulk knocked down in about 25 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and a preliminary fire loss is estimated at $200,000. The family will be displaced and are being assisted by the Departments Citizen Services Unit and the American Red Cross.
No civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported.
