At approximately 08:30 am, Saturday, January 01, 2011, fire & EMS units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the vicinity of northbound Interstate-95 & Powder Mill Road in Beltsville, Maryland.
Upon arrival, firefighters and paramedics discovered a single-vehicle accident that had left the roadway, struck a light pole, and split in half.
Fire department personnel worked quickly to extricate the trapped lone occupant and to provide advanced life support care. Unfortunately, the male occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There were 4 fire & EMS units with 12 firefighters and paramedics who supported this incident. The incident is currently under investigation by the Maryland Department of State Police.
