Both loops of the Capital Beltway are closed while firefighters deal with a tractor trailer fire that was involved in a crash just after 11:00 pm tonight. The truck is well involved with fire and has sparked a large area of brush on fire on Darcy Road.
Paramedics are tending to one injured person and will transport that person to an area hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer is unaccounted for and persumed to still be in the cab of the well-involved fire.
The tractor trailer struck a bridge embankment of the Darcy Road overpass. Portions of the underside of the bridge are reported to be damaged by the fire and crash.
The overpass has sustained significant damage and will remain closed until a safety inspection cab be performed.
Firefighters are continuing to work on extinguishing the truck fire and brush fires.
The Beltway remains closed.
