The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) kicked-off their public policy conference by hosting a reception in remembrance and tribute to 9/11 First Responders on the evening of September 11, 2011, on Capitol Hill. CHCI Chair Representative Charles A. Gonzalez, and fellow Congressmen Silvestre Reyes and Steny Hoyer were in attendance and spoke highly of the gathered group and of all first responders while at a rooftop reception at 101 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC.
Fire Fighter/Medic Captain James M. Jiron was selected to represent the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department. Jiron is a highly decorated member of the Department having received his second Valor Award for the 2010 rescue of two occupants from their burning home. He was also acknowledged by numerous other community and civic organizations as their “Firefighter of the Year” for his actions.
Captain Jiron stated, “I was honored to represent all members of the Department at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 9/11 Reception honoring First Responders. I was humbled by their gratitude and kindness.”
His wife, Kelly, accompanied Jiron to the reception. Fire Fighter/Medic Captain Jiron is assigned to the College Park Fire/EMS Station #812.
