An aggressive interior attack enabled firefighters to quickly contain and extinguish a fire and perform a quick search of the apartment building this morning in Fort Washington.  Just after 9:30 am, Prince George's County Firefighters and Paramedics were alerted to a fire at 1207 Palmer Road, a 3-story garden style apartment building.  The first arriving Battalion Chief advised of fire showing from a top floor, front side, apartment.  There were 32 firefighter/medics on the scene that took about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire.  All searches for occupants inside the apartment building were negative and no firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

The rapid extinguishment prevented the fire from extending into the roof and adjoining apartments.  A preliminary fire loss is estimated at $15,000.  The cause of the fire is under investigations.  Three apartments will be displaced due to fire, heat, smoke and water damages.  The County Citizen Services Unit, American Red Cross and apartment complex management are working together to provide temporary housing to the 12 displaced residents from the 3 apartments.
