It's time for all of our media friends to take a day and experience a day in the life of a Fire Fighter and Paramedic. This is a once-a-year opportunity that will enable media to participate personally, participate and cover with your production crew or participate and share your experiences later.
According to event organizers there are already several elected and civic leaders signed up for this year's event. These include Governor O'Malley, County Executive Baker, States Attorney Alsobrooks, several County Council members and State Delegates.
On Friday May 4th, the Prince George’s County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics Association will be hosting our second annual Fire Ops 101 Program at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute in College Park. This one-day workshop will demonstrate many aspects of fire and emergency medical service operations, from suiting up in protective gear and putting out fires to saving a victim of cardiac arrest. Each of the scenarios will give participants the opportunity to safely experience, first-hand, what fire fighters and paramedics face on a day-to-day basis.
We would be honored if you would consider participating in this activity. We believe this will provide you a perspective on our issues as never seen before. Additionally, our communications department will assure ample press coverage so that your constituents and employees know that you are on the front line with us.
Please respond as soon as possible since we must register participants no later than Monday April 16th. Please see the attached flyer for registration information and the attached sizing form which we need to fit you with the appropriate protective gear. We hope to see you there.
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY FIRE OPS 101
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT AND SIZING CHART
Dear Fire Ops 101 Participant:
All fire fighters are issued personal protective equipment (PPE), commonly referred to as turnout gear or bunkers, and self-contained breathing apparatus. PPEs are essential for the safety and protection of fire fighters; similar to a bulletproof vest for a police officer. As a Fire Ops 101 participant, it is necessary that you be properly fitted for your PPE; therefore, your assistance is requested in completing the attached form.
For best results, use a flexible sewing tape measure
and have someone assist you. All measurements
should be taken over casual street-type clothing.
Chest Measurement:
Take a deep breath, hold it, and measure under
the arms around the fullest part of the chest (bust).
Waist Measurement:
Please indicate your normal pants or jeans waist
size in inches. Or you may measure around your
waist at your normal pants waist line. When using
this method, it is best to take the measurement
over a belt.
Inseam Measurement:
Wearing casual clothing or jeans, measure from the
crotch inner seam to the anklebone.
Shoe/Boot Size:
If you know your shoe size, as measured on a Brannock foot-measuring device please provide this measurement. This is the most accurate measurement for the fitting of firefighting boots. If you do not know your shoe size as described above, please indicate your dress shoe or boot size. Please note that athletic shoe sizes will not provide an accurate sizing for our firefighting boots.
