Prince George’s County Firefighters and Paramedics from the Oxon Hill area were dispatched on one of those calls you just don’t hear very often.  On Tuesday evening, at about 9:00 pm, 911 callers reported a crash on the track of Rosecroft Raceway involving several horses and carts.  The raceway is located at 6336 Rosecroft Drive in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The initial arriving fire officer radioed to all other incoming units to turn off their sirens as they approached the scene to avoid scaring the horses.

Firefighters and Paramedics arrived to find three drivers injured and still on the track after a crash during a harness race occurred.  Two adult male drivers had experienced a loss of consciousness and were treated accordingly by medics.

The Maryland State Police medevac helicopter, Trooper 2, was summoned and landed on the large grassy infield at the raceway.

Two drivers with possible head injuries were loaded onto the helicopter and transported to a Trauma Center.  They were conscious at the time of transport.
Paramedics transported a third driver by ground to a trauma center.  He was suffering from undisclosed injuries.  All three were considered serious with non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters reported that they did not see any injured horses.

Firefighters and paramedics were clear the scene by 9:50 pm.
