Residents in the Kentland-Palmer Park area may have firefighters knocking on their door tomorrow, Wednesday, September 19. The Kentland-Palmer Park Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative (TNI) Team will be conducting door-to-door fire safety inspections within the community. This effort will be supported by recruit firefighters that are currently attending the Fire/EMS Department’s Training Academy.
All Fire/EMS resources and any other TNI/Agency representatives will meet at the intersection of Columbia Place and Flagstaff Street at 10:00 am.
Once everyone arrives, TNI team members will be paired with two recruits and/or Suppression/EMS representatives. Each team will then be given an area to conduct inspections.
The event will end promptly at 12:00 pm. Firefighters and other TNI members will walk the streets, armed only with smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and fire safety/injury prevention hand-out material. Teams will go door-to-door and visit as many homes as possible. Residents can have their smoke alarms checked to ensure they are working as well as helping residents with a home escape plan by identifying two ways out of every room and identifying a meeting place outside.
If a smoke alarm is found to be not working or missing, firefighters will install a new one, free of charge. If homes require a carbon monoxide detector, firefighters will install one of those as well, free of charge.
