PGFD Weekend Activities are Plentiful - Not Counting Incidents

The Prince George's County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department will be busy this weekend and I'm not even talking about responding to the 350 or so incidents we handle everyday.  The combined career, civilian and volunteer members will be participating in a variety of events throughout the course of the weekend.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2012

7:45 am, Fire Chief Bashoor will lead 33 recruit firefighters on a run across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

1:00 pm, The Fire/EMS Department will be joined by civic and elected leaders at a press conference as we unveil the County's largest PINK Breast Cancer Awareness project ever.  District Heights Fire/EMS Station, 5900 Marlboro Pike.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2012

Saturday and Sunday, October 7 - Churches within the Archdiocese of Washington and other Places of Worship will ring their bells throughout the course of the weekend to honor Fallen Firefighters.  Additionally, the University of Maryland will hold a Moment of Silence prior to their 3:30 game to do the same.  This is part of the National Fallen Firefighters Bells Across America.

A Memorial Bike Ride is being held in honor of Probationary Member Sean Aultmon. Line up at 11:00 am with a 12 pm start from Glenn Dale Volunteer Fire Association Station, 11900 Glenn Dale Boulevard proceeding to the Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department.

11:00 am to 3:00 pm, The Volunteer Fire Department of Brandywine will kick-off Fire Prevention Month with an Open House at their station on Brandywine Road.

2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Guns and Hoses BBQ Challenge, The Fire/EMS Department BBQ Grill Team will compete against the County Police Grill Team to claim bragging rights to the Public Safety Grill Masters title.  This is a fundraiser for 2 worthy causes.  Boulevard at Capital Center Food Court, Largo, MD.  Plenty of photo ops and interviews available.

3:30 pm game time, nearly 400 members of the Department will be guests of the University of Maryland Athletic Department at the Maryland VS Wake Forest Football Game at Byrd Stadium as part of a Firefighter Appreciation Day.  This event will also serve as the first public display of a the PGFD PINK PROJECT (on display in Terp Town).  A Moment of Silence will be held just prior to the start of the game to honor fallen firefighters.

Saturday, October 6, Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor will accompany other members of the Department and thousands of firefighters from across the Country to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, MD.  Fire Service members and that suffered a Line of Duty Death in 2011 and surviving family will be honored throughout the course of the weekend.  Services can be viewed live on the web on saturday evening and Sunday morning by clicking here.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2012

1:00 pm, home game for the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field in Landover, MD.  Nearly 60 Firefighter/Medics will working at the stadium.  Additionally, this will be the second public display of the PGFD PINK PROJECT, location at the stadium TBD.

1:30 pm, Fire Department Memorial Service and Viewing for Ritchie Volunteer Probationary Member that was tragically killed in a motor vehicle crash (non-Department related) last week.  J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home, Landover, MD.
