Hillcrest Heights House Fire - Birchtree Lane

Prince George's County Firefighters arrived on the scene of a Hillcrest Heights home this afternoon and reported heavy fire showing. At about 1:30 pm today firefighters were alerted to a house fire in the 4500 block of Birchtree Lane and arrived to find a fire in the basement of a two-story single family home. The fire extended to the first floor before firefighters could knock the fire down. It required about 15 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the fire.
All occupants had escaped safely prior to the Fire/EMS Departments arrival. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated and released at the Burn Unit at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. No civilian injuries were reported. The County Citizen Services Unit is working with the displaced occupants, four adults and 2 dogs, to arrange for temporary shelter.
Fire Investigators continue to investigate the cause and origin of the fire and loss estimates are not yet tabulated.
