PGFD in the Community and Honoring Fallen Heroes

This was a busy weekend for personnel of the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department and I'm not referring to the average 350 incidents dispatched each day.  Career, civilian and volunteer members of the Department participated in numerous community events and memorials for fallen heroes.
Personnel attended and interacted with members of the community at the Brotherhood Summit held at the Bowie State University, Hero Rush, Avon Walk for the CureHillcrest Heights Day and Parade, Suitland Community Day, Shiloh Baptist Church community event, Festival at National Harbor, Harlem Renaissance Festival, Bladensburg Community Day, Berwyn Heights Day and a memorial event for fallen heroes at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.  Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor mustered up enough energy to attend the Red Cross Gala with his Laura at the end of an already long day.
On Sunday, May 5, our attention was directed to the Line of Duty Death services of Gene Kirchner, a volunteer member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County, MD. Some of our apparatus and personnel filled in at stations in Baltimore County so those firefighters could attend the services while other members, including Fire Chief Bashoor, attended funeral services.  Our thoughts and prayers continue for the family, friends and co-workers of Fire Fighter Kirchner.

PGFD was well represented at Hero Rush.  Big crew from the 1st/3rd Battalion as well as teams crews from Riverdale, Branchville, Hyattsville, Bladensburg and Kentland. According to Dave Iannone, co-founder and volunteer member at the Hyattsville VFD, "PGFD crews participated in the "343" wave, which supports the NFFF."

Where ever the PGFD Pink Pumper goes it becomes a popular spot for photo ops.  The pumper was on display at the Avon Walk for the Cure and was positioned along the route at the Bethesda Fire Department in Montgomery County.
