A Glenn Dale man has been charged with several crimes after
he is believed to have set multiple fires in a house. At 10:45 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014, Prince
George’s County Firefighters were alerted to a house fire in the 11500 block of
Prospect Place in Glenn Dale. The
dispatch information included Deputy Sheriffs were on location attempting
to serve a court ordered eviction. A
barricade situation developed with at least one shot fired. Just minutes later and before the firefighter’s
arrival updated information provided by Public Safety Communications Dispatchers
indicated the suspect was out of the house, in custody, and the scene was
secure for firefighters.
Firefighters arrived to find a 2-story single family home
with fire showing from the 2nd floor. The fire was quickly contained and
extinguished without any further incident.
Medics treated the adult male suspect for minor injuries and
he was transported, with Law Enforcement officials, to a local hospital for
treatment.
Fire Investigators from the Prince George’s County Office of
the Fire Marshal and Deputy Sheriffs conducted a joint investigation. Fire Investigators determined that the
suspect set multiple fires in the residence using an accelerant. The cause of the fire has been classified as “Incendiary”
with $80,000 in estimated fire loss.
Fire Investigators obtained a warrant for David Clarence
Coley, 53 years-of-age of Glenn Dale, charging him with:
Arson – 1st Degree – Felony – maximum penalty if
found guilty is 30 years in jail.
Arson – 2nd Degree – Felony – maximum penalty if
found guilty is 20 years in jail.
Malicious Burning 1st Degree – Felony - maximum penalty
if found guilty is 5 years in jail.
Malicious Burning 2nd Degree – Misdemeanor – max penalty
if found guilty is 18 month in jail.
Coley was arrested and remanded to the Department of
Correction and being held on a $100,000 bond.
