A man and woman sustained critical burn injuries inside of a Kettering
home where they both lived after a set fire occurred during a domestic
argument. The man died of his injuries before being arrested.
On Tuesday, November 8, at
around 9:45 am, an adult female emerged from her home in the unit block of Herrington
Drive and sought help from a group of poll workers at the nearby Kettering Middle
School. The female, 60ish, had 3rd
Degree burn injuries on the upper half of her body and asked for help. While some poll workers assisted her, another
called 911 to say that smoke was coming from a house across the street and they
had an injured occupant with them.
Additional
911 information revealed that an adult male had exited and re-entered the
burning home. When firefighters arrived, the adult male, 64 years-of-age, had exited the home a second time and was found
outside suffering from burn and smoke inhalation injuries.
Medics
treated and transported both patients to area hospitals for their
injuries. Both were listed in Critical condition at area hospitals as of last night.
A Prince George's County Fire Captain sustained burn injuries while battling the fire. He was transported to Medstar Washington Hospital Center Burn Unit where he was treated and released later the same day.
Two
dogs escaped the burning house on their own, recovered, and placed into the
care of County Animal Control.
Two other resident of the home, an adult female and infant child, were not at home when the fire occurred. They are displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross.
Officials
from the Fire/EMS Departments Office of the Fire Marshal arrived and began their
cause and origin investigation. It was
quickly found that the injured female was doused with an
ignitable liquid and set on fire by the male during an argument they were having in the
basement of the house. This incendiary act also started combustibles on fire in the basement.
The
fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Fire loss is estimated at $100,000.
Fire
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and were joined by the
County Police Homicide and Domestic Violence Units. A joint fire and police investigation ensued and
multiple charges against the adult male were developed and a warrant was
obtained.
The
suspect, Louis Ferrard Fedee, DOB 8-24-1952, was described as a long-time acquaintance
of the injured female homeowner. He was still hospitalized when he succumbed to
his injuries late this morning. He died prior to being arrested.

The
female homeowner remains listed in Critical Condition.
