The Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department will bestow Fire Chief’s Awards to PEPCO employees for their actions at the scene of an Upper Marlboro house fire in October 2012. The PEPCO workers quick actions and disregard for their own safety to save property and minimize injury potential to an infant are highly commendable.
Additionally, PEPCO will continue with their annual donation of smoke alarms to the Fire/EMS Department. PEPCO will provide 700 smoke alarms and 30 hearing impaired smoke alarms to the Fire/EMS Department who will then install these life saving devices in homes throughout Prince George’s County; free of charge. The donation could not come at a better time as new initiatives have reduced our available supply of smoke alarms combined with the number of new alarms needed for this weekend’s Change Your Clock – Change Your Battery campaign.
Over the past week firefighter/medics have been going door-to-door checking for and installing new working smoke alarms. Since the implementation of “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” and “Safety First Week of the Month” on March 1 over 150 smoke alarms have been installed in homes.
