Bowie Brush Fire Update

Prince George’s County Firefighters, with assistance from Anne Arundel County Firefighters, are currently battling a large brush fire. About 40 firefighter’s on-board 9 engines and two 4X4 brush units are trying to contain the approximately 3 acre brush fire running behind the Hilltop Plaza Shopping Center (Annapolis Road and Race Track Road) and the Freestate Mall in Bowie. At this point; no structures are in danger and there are no evacuation orders. Firefighters have been on the scene since just after 4:00 PM. The command post is set up on the rear side of Free State Mall by the Good Year Tire Center.

Firefighters from College Park, Riverdale and Beltsville are transferring to cover the Bowie area.

Eight Injured in Upper Marlboro Crash

Just before 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 06, 2010, Firefighters and Paramedics from the Upper Marlboro area were alerted to a multi-vehicle crash involving injuries. Fire/EMS units from Croom Station #845 were the first to arrive at Route 301 and Rosaryville Road and advised they had 4 vehicles involved with multiple people injured. There was no entrapment and no life threatening inquires involved. Four patients, a 90ish year old male, two 50ish year old male’s and a 20ish year old female were transported to a local hospital with neck and back pain. A 20ish year old female and teen aged male were transported by medics to a different hospital for check-up of their minor injuries and two children, a 9 moth old female and a 3 year old male were flown to a children’s trauma center via US Park Eagle 2 Meda-Vac helicopter. This transport was made with an overabundance of caution for possible injuries. Injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

There were 21 firefighters and paramedics that worked at the scene of this incident. Staffing was on-board 2 engine companies, 1 heavy duty rescue squad, 1 paramedic unit, 3 ambulances under the direction of 1 command officer.

No further details are available. The Maryland State Police is the investigating law enforcement agency.
