2nd Alarm Apartment Fire - Saturday AM Update

Shortly after 10:30 pm, Friday, April 1, 2011, firefighters were alerted to an apartment fire in Laurel. Fire/EMS units arrived at #10 Morris Drive and found heavy fire on the second floor of a 3-story apartment building.

A 2nd Alarm has been sounded bringing additional firefighters to the scene.

Currently firefighters from Prince Georges County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County and Montgomery County are working to bring the fire under control.

No word on any injuries at this point. It appears that several families will be displaced.

Saturday AM Update

Fire Incident Dispatch at 10:47 pm April 1, 2011

Apartment Fire (2nd Alarm) – 10 Morris Drive Laurel - Incident #11-091-0322. Units were dispatched to smoke coming from an apartment. Upon arrival they discovered fire showing from the 2nd floor of a three story w/flat roof garden style apartment. It required 30 minutes for approximately 60 firefighters to extinguish the fire.  CSU was on the scene working with management and the Red Cross to house 11 Families that are displaced (29 Adults, 19 Children, 2 Infants from this building).

Fire Investigations was on the scene and indicates the cause as unattended candles in a second floor apartment. The fire loss was placed at approximately $75,000 total for the structure and contents. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
