Challenging teams of everyday people to build homemade human-powered flying machines and pilot them off a 30-foot high deck in hopes of flight, Red Bull Flugtag takes place more than 100 times around the world. Now, this one-of-a-kind competition is landing in DC for the first time ever on Saturday, September 21 at National Harbor, MD, and LivingSocial is the exclusive ticket provider.
Flugtag might mean "flying day" in German, but all these crafts ultimately splash into the waters below. Red Bull Flugtag flying machines range from realistic plane replicas to anything the imagination can conjure up. Past crafts include a Flying Purple People Eater, Santa and his sleigh, a flying toilet, and even a flying cheeseburger. Teams are judged not only on their flight's distance, but creativity and showmanship as well. To gain more showmanship points, participants often wear outrageous costumes, act out skits, and create their own music soundtracks for the flight.
National Red Bull Flugtag will take place on the Southpointe area adjacent to the Gaylord Hotel & Convention Center. Gates open at noon, inviting spectators to meet the teams and get a close-up view of the homemade crafts before the first flight departs at 2 p.m.
Choose from the following offers:
• $15 for one GA ticket
• $50 for four GA tickets
• $80 for one VIP ticket with premium viewing, food, and drink

PGFD Flugtag tee-shirts are also available for purchase.
All proceeds will be donated to the IAFF Local 1619 Burn Fund.
The 1st edition shirts can be worn in place of a work shirt during September

Fair, Stairs, Softball and Football Fill Calendar for September Weekend

Mark E. Brady, Chief Spokesperson, 240-508-7930

The combined civilian, career, and volunteer men and women of the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department will be quite busy the weekend of September 6, 2013.  Aside from our highest priority, the normal day-to-day practice of providing quality emergency assistance for our citizens, visitors, and businesses with an average daily response of 375 calls per day; Fire/EMS personnel will participate in various fun-filled events occurring throughout the county.

The Prince George’s County Fair  will open Thursday, September 5, and run through Sunday evening.  Volunteer firefighters and EMTs will be onsite to provide fire safety and injury prevention tips, as well as ensure that everyone attending the fair stays safe.

The 40th Annual International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Softball Championship begins Friday, September 6, and will conclude following a championship game Sunday, September 8.  Hundreds of firefighters and paramedics from around the country attend event and play softball to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Saturday, September 7, Prince George’s County will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and 3K Walk at the Gaylord National Hotel, in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives September 11, 2001.  The first 343 people to register and participate will receive lunch at the Gaylord, a tee shirt, and a challenge coin.  Pre-registration is available by clicking the above link.  You do not have to be a firefighter to participate.

Monday, September 9,  The NFL Redskins Opening Game will be played at FedEx Field in Landover. Dozens of Prince George’s County firefighters and paramedics will be on hand to provide assistance to an anticipated sold out crowd.  The Redskins will play NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.  Game time is 7:10 p.m., so anticipate traffic delays in the area during the evening rush hour.  Fans should plan to arrive early and tailgate responsibly.  It is important to "Hail Safely" before, during and after the game!!!
