One of the most important functions a Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department can do is to perform Community Outreach. Career Days, school visits, tools of the trade demonstrations, town hall meetings, coffee clubs, etc place firefighters and medics right in the middle of the public eye. Children often times "look-up" to our personnel and it remains our duty to engage and educate them. Below are just 3 examples of our personnel performing Community Outreach and Public Education. It occurs just about everyday in some form and is one of the most important roles we can do.
As part of the "Take your Kids to Work Day" the employees working in the Office of Information and Technology participated and scheduled many events for their children. Because the PGFD and OIT work in the same building on Basil Court in Largo we were happy to provide a Bomb Squad demonstration. Sandra Longs, Director of the OIT Office stated, "Thank you so much. The kids were amazed at both the robot and Tango. They loved it!"
